The Power of Personal Stories: Mapping your memoir project and navigating challenges

    Date: Friday, 6th October
    Time: 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
    Location: Proserpine Library

This workshop will help plan your memoir or family history project as a way of capturing cherished memories and pivotal life events and weaving them into a compelling story.

Whether it’s an extraordinary adventure, a transformative experience, or a lesson learned, your story matters. The workshop will guide you through the concept of a story arc or the hero’s journey, enabling you to infuse your memoir with narrative depth and emotional resonance.

In this workshop, we will guide you through:

    • Introduction to Memoir Writing: Exploring the fundamental aspects of memoir as a genre, its distinctiveness compared to other forms of life-writing, and the creative possibilities it offers, including poetry, scripts, and graphic novels.
    • Navigating Memory Gaps: Discovering the art of research and how to use it effectively to enhance your memoir. Gain insights into filling memory gaps with carefully curated research, creating a seamless and compelling narrative.
    • Ethical Reflections: Delving into the ethical considerations inherent in memoir writing. Learn how to navigate the sensitivities of truth, memory, and the portrayal of living relatives and other individuals.
    • Developing your memoir project: Engaging in interactive exercises and prompts designed to spark your creativity and encourage open discussion among participants.

This free event will be hosted by publishing consultant 852 Press and presented by 852 Press Director Dr Julia Evans and author of nine books Richard Evans. Their combined experience will guide you through the intricacies of memoir writing with clarity and enthusiasm.

This workshop is tailored for adults who may not have extensive writing experience but are eager to share their unique stories and embark on this transformative journey. You don’t need to be a seasoned writer; all you need is a willingness to explore and a passion for storytelling.

Join us on the path to preserving your legacy through the art of memoir writing.

Your story deserves to be heard, and this workshop is your first step towards ensuring your voice resonates through the ages.
